Wow. I haven't worn the RI school uniform for so long I had to hunt around the whole house to fine my RI badge. And the pants feel a bit tighter than they used to (THIS IS BAD).
On Saturday, I got a call from Dao Bo to ask me to play for the RJCSB clarinet ensemble for RJC open house. I agreed, though I wondered how a clarinet section with about 8 people can need me for their ensemble.
So today, I headed off to practice at about 1 PM, MISSING the 157 which just whizzed by the bus stop while I was running down the overhead bridge. The ensemble song in question was Rhapsody In Blue, with its famous clarinet opening glissando, composed by George Gershwin and arranged by... Hu Yijie.
I need to practice the song more. The notes aren't hard or anything, but I need to get the timing of the bass notes in with the somewhat more rubato melodies that the rest of the clarinets are playing. AND I need to write down all the sharps and flats in the piece so that I don't play a wrong note straight into the mike.
Anyway, the ensemble is a 5 person affair... all guys, strangely. Mine is Clar 5.
Saw this outside one of the RJC buildings... so that's where condemned instruments go.
Today was really my unlucky bus day... on the way home, yet again, I just missed the 157 while walking over the overhead bridge. Got home at 4:30 PM.
