07 March 2009 ~ two hundred

Happy Birthday to thee,
Happy Birthday to thee,
Happy Birthday to my blogggggggg,
Happy Birthday to thee!

Ok lame, but anyway, YES! my blog as SURVIVED one whole year without dying off, so I guess this warrants a birthday celebration. My blog is now officially one year old, with two hundred posts to boot. That's 200 posts in 365 days, which gives a posting frequency of ~0.54 which is more than one post every two days. Not bad.

As I scroll through my posts from March 2008 to 2009, I can't help but wonder if I have actually achieved anything. So what have I done this past year?

First and foremost that I can think of is band. Scanning through my blog, I can find a lot of posts pertaining to my stint as the clarinet SL and UD head in RIMB. Prometheum XII, the Japan trip, and SIBF were the three main events for our batch, and I remember myself thinking and trying to get them achieved successfully, in my small corner of jurisdiction (ie. my section).

I remember the many days after practice and thinking rather emo-ly about my SLship and how I could be a much better SL. I recall the problems I kept having the the UD record keeping - when the coats were often unaccounted for and with an ever-decreasing quantity of them, I had to call up a whole lot of seniors just to ask for their coats back.

I can still feel the exhilaration that I felt after Prometheum XII. I also remember sitting in this exact spot, behind my computer, in a batch mass convo, feeling depressed because we didn't do that great a job at the Republic Polytechnic Convention Center. The joy when it was announced we got a silver.

I remember the time spent in Japan; getting pwned by the Japanese bands, enjoying the batch bonding, in 4068, having fun Universal Studios, steaming in the hot public bath, eating the really nice ice-cream.

I still reminisce sometimes about Investiture, about passing on the positions and responsibility to the Sec 3s (now Sec 4s). The loss, of not having RIMB to go to. Our batch song, Centuria. Watching the Sec 3s take on the mantle. Us as a batch, all of us together, in RIMB for the last time. I recall crying, vaguely, somewhere.

The time of RWinds. Longing for every Saturday, where we could get together during RWinds practice and hang out. CODA 4, and the fun we had trying to make it a success. Getting to know new people, older generations of the Raffles bands.

RJCSB. Entering the RJC band which we admired so much in RIMB. Meeting old seniors and new ones too. Expanding our batch. Being under Mr Oura again. Being part of a Raffles band again. Being the juniors again, at long last.

Second aspect would be studies, and I really have very little to speak of about this topic. I have a hard time remembering my own studies and standards, and so what's there to say? GPA 3.56? C5 for Higher Chinese "O"?

So we progress to school life.

4G. Fun to be in, but also a nightmare to cope with. The good times and the bad times (there were a lot of both). Mrs Ang. Getting closer as 2008 progressed, and talking to people more than I usually do. Wishfully regretting I'd not gotten to know, really know this class sooner.

Graduation ceremony. Graduation night. Finally exposing myself to the full dose of batch spirit that our RI batch of 2008 has ever come up with. Hoping the night would never end. Never wanting to go home when it did.

O'rientation 09, O'Tiero. My OG. The late nights and fun dinners. Doing our best for the Amazing Race. Cheering Bayley-Waddle on for everything. Dancing our batch dance. Singing our batch song. Dressing up for O'Night. Saying goodbye to JC1 orientation forever.

My class, 10SO6D. The old faces, and the new. We are still in the process of bonding, and hopefully we can become a class with a decent degree of togetherness and class spirit.

Last thing is a pretty minor thing, and that would be DotA.

Learning Jakiro as my first hero, during LAN after band camp. Playing on throughout the holidays with the RIMB DotA group, then expanding, pooling DotA cliques throughout the school. Getting better. Going LAN again and again, with class and batch, with a reasonable amount of skill and experience. Learning that KOTL does not get Divine Rapier.

And my blog has recorded it all.

Not everyday that you're one year old!

Happy birthday blog.
