On MusicFeste'10.

My memories of MusicFeste'09 are scattered somewhat: I remember certain parts of certain houses, like the BW clarinet concerto, the MT solos (randomly those of flute/clarinet/trombone) and their conductor who spun around at the end of their piece, the MR actors waltzing in from the sides of the PAC in masks plus Lucas' whistling, the HH recorders, and the BB storyline and beatboxer.

Anyway, BW got 5th position for that year. Watching from the audience, I was quite disappointed - though I had no right to be, it was just the usual disappointment if your house loses something even though you didn't contribute - and decided that next year I would play. Perhaps I could play a part, for once in my RJC life, to help BW win something.

So I did, this year. Or rather got invited by Hong Rui. In any case, I agreed, and so we set out practicing for MusicFeste, two weeks before the performance itself.

After a few practices most of us soon realized that preparations for MusicFeste had started way before most of us knew of our participation. Thanks to Hong Rui (OUR GREAT COMPOSER/CONDUCTOR!), the piece had been completed after many long nights and weeks of writing and refining. We were there to help realize his dream - most of the effort was still contributed by him.

Skip to the day of MusicFeste itself. (yesterday)

We were great! During the rehearsal we sounded below standard, but the actual performance sounded awesome XD. I got so high at the end I tried (but failed) to improvise a little (sorry HR :/) in the heat of the moment, and we were all enjoying ourselves so much on stage. And the crowd cheered really loudly, or so I thought (or wished to think).

Well in the end we got 2nd, losing to MR but winning HH, MT, and BB (i.e. final result was MR-BW-HH-MT-BB from 1st to 5th). But I didn't really care haha. My thoughts at the moment, sitting on the PAC steps in silence while awaiting the emcees to announce the results, were more of hoping that Hong Rui would get something. It was either Best Composition or BW winning overall (or best performance, though I'm not sure how different that is from winning) that would satisfy, and I'm happy to say that he won his well-deserved BEST COMPOSITION YEAH HONGRUI YOU DID IT!!!

Of course my heart fell a little when BW was announced in 2nd place, but it recovered quickly (not like the Chinese result which I had to take a walk around the whole school campus before calming down and being able to face anyone). Losing the championship to MR was fair in my eyes, considering the amount of work and time they put in (esp Samuel, who incurred a gigantic sleep debt because of MF). I can't say much about the positions of MT and HH though, because I only heard bits and pieces of their performances. IMO MT sounded better than HH (and maybe even better than us) from the bits I heard, but this isn't a fair judgement.

And I kinda wanted the championship T-shirt, it looked so cool!

BUT WHO CARES we had loads and loads of fun putting up this performance, and my deepest thanks go out to all you guys: Hong Rui, Dennis, Brent, Lumpy, Weiqi, Hillary, Haoteng (now I know you're also called ZACHARIAS!), Xin Yi, John Yu, Fangying, Kexin, Wen Yun and Zongmin! It's been great!

If I had known MusicFeste was so fun I would've tried harder to join last year too haha!
