PROM NIGHT!!!

A special post number for a special event.

A very enjoyable night this was, and certainly not because of the programme. What makes - what made - prom night so memorable for me wasn't the programme, which really left much to be desired, but the atmosphere and the people and the pictures.

I'm really not going to say anything about the programme itself. Or the food. Or the emcee ><. There could have been much done to improve those. But what made the night so great were my batchmates - class, band, school - that came, with all of us making the effort to dress up well. The simple act of being together is all I needed to make my night, and it was made.

Some might not regard prom as a special event, but I don't care; it's special to me. It marks the end of a journey and the beginning of another one, and celebrates the joys and sorrows of the process. It revives memories of fun times, sad times, difficult times, worthwhile times. It gives everyone the chance to say their farewells, even if it isn't really goodbye, because who knows when the next time of meeting will be?

And as you meet some people, friends who haven't been close or recurrent, but people who have been in your life for fleeting moments and have only reappeared because it's prom night, what can you say to them?

And as you meet those that have been around for years, not close friends but good friends nonetheless, and you finally realize it's time for parting because you probably won't be seeing them for a long time to come, what can you say to them?

And as you meet, finally, your closest friends, whom you know you still want to see, still can see at least for the near future, but you know your destinies eventually lie apart, and all you want to do is prolong the happiness that you've known thus far... what can you say to them, on this night of all nights?

Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because I knew you
I have been changed for good

Each person has different things to say, but this is mine. My friends have shaped me from what I was to who I am now, and all I know is that they have done so for good, and for good. And I am sincerely thankful for them.

I don't have all the pictures I really want to put up, but one word:

FACEBOOK

So I'll just put up whatever was in my camera after the event. It's really few, because my camera decided to up itself to a new level of spoil, and the On/Off button decided to malfunction. Please don't feel slighted if your picture isn't here - just means that it's on a different camera, and eventually, it will make its way onto Facebook.

I've got a couple of song dedications. Dedicated to anyone and everyone I've known these past two years. Just let it be known that the beginning of life ahead isn't the end of the life before, and that my friends will always have a place in my heart no matter what the future brings.

*emoz*

Hope you listen, and if not, just read.

In the years to come
Will you think about these moments that we shared

In the years to come
Are you gonna think it over
And how we lived each day with no regrets

Nothing lasts forever though we want it to
The road ahead holds different dreams for me and you

In a year from now
Maybe there will be thing we'll wish we'd never said

In a year from now
Maybe we'll see each other
Standing on the same street corner though it rains

Each and every end is always written in the stars
If only I could stop the world I'd make this last

Sometimes goodbye, though it hurts in your heart,
is the only way for destiny
Sometimes goodbye, though it hurts,
is the only way now for you and me
Though it's the hardest thing to say
I'll miss your love in every way
So say goodbye
But don't you cry
Because true love never dies

Say Goodbye - S Club

I've heard it said
That people come into our lives for a reason
Bringing something we must learn
And we are led
To those who help us most to grow
If we let them
And we help them in return
Well, I don't know if I believe that's true
But I know I'm who I am today
Because I knew you

Like a comet pulled from orbit
As it passes a sun
Like a stream that meets a boulder
Halfway through the wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because I knew you
I have been changed for good

It well may be
That we will never meet again
In this lifetime
So let me say before we part
So much of me
Is made of what I learned from you
You'll be with me
Like a handprint on my heart
And now whatever way our stories end
I know you have rewritten mine
By being my friend

Like a ship blown from its mooring
By a wind off the sea
Like a seed dropped by a skybird
In a distant wood
Who can say if I've been changed for the better?
But because I knew you
Because I knew you
I have been changed for good

So after prom night, and after LENGTHY DISCUSSION, Zhixuan Samuel Russell and I ended up going to Ryan's house for a stayover. Involving Hercules, YouTube (!!!), and Battle of Immortals.

Note, stayover, not sleepover.

The next day (today!) there was a class outing to go ice skating. It was quite a cool new experience, but all I can say is that I suck at it TT. I didn't even know this existed in Singapore, but apparently it does at Kallang Leisure Center. Which was conveniently close to Ryan's house (and inconveniently close to mine, hence some impetus for the sleepover).

After that was pool, basketball, card games, more pool, dinner, then arcade :O. Thanks to Shiping for hosting us, and Leonard for organizing the whole affair (and XW for enduring us during the arcade time XD).

So anyway, here I am, at nearly midnight on the 7th, having slept for 3 hours last night, typing out this prom and post-prom post. It was a really fun two days, and I doubt I'd have nearly so much fun in the weeks to come... after enlisting.
